After the end of the asylum procedure the (former) asylum seekers (who have either been granted a residence permit or have been refused asylum) leave our reception centres. New residence permit holders are provided a home in a Dutch municipality. It may take 9 - 12 months before : they may stay at the asylum seekers’ centre until they can move into their new home.
Asylum seekers who have been refused asylum may remain at the asylum seekers’ centre for a maximum of 4 -12 weeks. During this period they are prepared for repatriation to their country of origin. These former asylum seekers are responsible for their departure from the Netherlands. However, there are exceptions to this rule, for example when ex-asylum seekers are unable to travel for medical reasons.
